I feel the my time management is unorganised in order to fulfil my briefs and complete my work successfully. I need to actually make use of student support to help plan out how I will produce my work and help build upon skills that i have already. I feel that once I have set myself a task, I find it hard to generate ideas and get confused about my ideas, rather than choosing an idea and working on it as my final piece. I think i also need to improve upon the quality of my final pieces and take them from within my work and develop them more on their own. I found with my illustration brief I liked using mixed media in my images. I liked the results I achieved and I feel I could develop this and use this in future work. I found it helpful doing old briefs as I actually have something to work towards, as I found it most difficult setting my own targets and briefs as I became unsure of the direction I was going to take. I liked my projects that mocked famous artworks of Damien Hirst and the Times Art Supplement. I like the way I used the subjects behind the artists, like the artist who used the fluorescent light and I questioned its position but with the sticker "Art or Rubbish". I used this theme to produce five images of famous artworks with the same tongue in cheek style. I felt this was the strongest of my art projects as it questioned my role and values as a designer. With the typeface/street art brief I was happy with the work I produced however I found myself struggling with how to develop it as I knew I had to produce an A-Z of street art but I didn't know where to take the brief. The end piece was not developed properly as I did not take my time and the final presentation of my image was simple and could of been developed better. In the future I feel I need to organise my time with briefs, have briefs set out for me rather than making my own as I find this more difficult to begin with. Once I have started my research I find it easy to get going with my development ideas, however I could not do this with my self directed briefs. I will address this in my next projects.

illustration Brief

<img style="float:left; It was staging a 3 on 3 street basket ball tornament. It had a hiphop DJ there and they were playing live music. They had break dancing there and there was a really good vibe. Was good to see art combined with a popular past time. Would o been good if the art was sprayed there and then, such as a live art. I think this relates to my work and the inspiration I got at the Tate, I will find it really useful for my inspiration.

Graffiti Artist- Temper

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SICwa4Jq-GI/AAAAAAAAAIo/4o-U6WIBS44/s320/popcorn.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224369543545813090" />

This work is by the artist Temper, he used tips of spray cans instead of popcorn. They create sculptures out of rubbish and use lighting to paint the picture. It is a personal journey of self discovery in which they take a theme of their own lives and create an entirely new form of self portraiture. 'Dirty White Trash' executed in 1998, is a sculpture made up of household rubbish, that the pair accumulated over a six month period. Discarded packages of fish fingers, empty hair dye bottles, and the occasional jar of peanut butter lie piled up one on top of the other, to form no other than a mountain of filth. Yet at the flick of a switch, the mountain of garbage is transformed into a miraculous shadow profile of the artists leaning back to back, gazing at the sky, enjoying a cigarette and a glass of wine. I like the way this work is two completely different things and that light alters its meaning.

SixEart

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SICmjrz-kmI/AAAAAAAAAHo/Em4Pim3XKV8/s320/DSC00168.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224358699736142434" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SICmj0owh1I/AAAAAAAAAHw/hVnZx_H-ULo/s320/sixeart.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224358702105003858" />

Sixearts mixture of psychedelic abstraction and comic book inspired figuration has become an essential elements of the urban fabric, Barcelona. His work has a childlike innocence that is combined with an hallucinogenic sense of second sight. Sinister tragic comedy with notes of psychopathology is one definition he has offered of this unique style. Having painted form an early age, he made a name for himself as a graffiti writer, before developing his own highly personal visual language with recurring figures and animals. He explains that his own universe of characters come from his happy childhood and helps him feel younger. Already renowned street writer, he developed a remarkable style while studying for a fine arts degree in Madrid. Since then his skills have been in such a demand for decorating shop outlets and for advertising agencies such as Nike and L'Oreal. He says " They say this work is vandalism, but for me, its only true art form" and I agree with this concept. I love this piece of work as I love Nike Airforce One. Even everyday shoes that I wear could be inspiring for my work.

Artist: Blu

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SICOb7pVSII/AAAAAAAAAHI/y5TZowdjHqc/s320/graf+tate.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224332178268440706" />

Based in Bologna Italy, Blue makes very large scale images of monsters and figures often involved in scenes of barbarity. These have the look of cartoon creatures or characters of Greek mythology. Drawing is an integral to his work. He uses a very limited palette which has the effect of highlighting his fascination with line and form. I use this paint just to fill in the drawing he has said. Blu sees buildings as sheets of paper. I would think my favourite artist Banksy feels the same. Due to their massive scale his works often give the impression that the buildings aren't quite big enough. What is great about his work is the he makes doodling on an epic scale look easy. His influences come from comic book artists such as Robert Crumb, and the inspiration he take from Italy. This is something I wish to take from this and it is to find things around me that inspire me.

Tate Modern- Street Art

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SICNZGNrxMI/AAAAAAAAAHA/teeZQAWv0ac/s320/tate+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224331030054028482" />

By the work of Faile, (post below), There was a tunnel full of street art. The decay of advertising and fly posting provides provides a platform to present their own take on the world of found imagery. These recognisable pop culture images are visible in their large scale canvas works, representing a rich collage of the urban experience. In the spirit of collage, they've diversified into other areas including sculpture and bookmaking yet their work remains heavily indebted to printmaking and stenciling traditions. A lot of my work involves stenciling and I love this form of art work. I think the pop art fad will never has its day it will always have such a great impact on art. This image above 'A life' (an anagram of Faile) was given this name because of the process of deterioration that an artwork suffered when exposed to the elements.

Tate Exhibition

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SICKXxOmHeI/AAAAAAAAAGw/bczNg4a15Dk/s320/tate+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224327708705955298" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SICKLEOSwaI/AAAAAAAAAGo/CZE43-14hPE/s320/tate3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224327490466660770" />

I couldn't believe my luck, in London for the 10k and looking for inspiration for my dissertation, and there it was a street art exhibition!!!
"In the first major public museum display of street art in London, Tate Modern has invited six internationally acclaimed artists whose work is intricately linked to the urban environment to create new works on the buildings iconic facade overlooking the Thames"
Street art at the Tate Modern brings an important aspect of current art practice and one that has influenced many artists, including Basquiat and Picasso. I found this really inspiration, as the public really liked the concept of gigantic furniture. I like the idea of playing with scale, and making things bigger or smaller than what they would actually be usually. I also like the use of different materials, as they used astroturf here. I feel that if the furniture was normal size, it wouldn't of had the same impact of people as it did being oversized.
The image of the graffiti, was underneath the festival hall were kids from all ages go to skate on their skateboards and hang out. It is a place for their expression. The walls are covered in graffiti everywhere you look, they repaint over it, add to it, and they all contribute to the walls, as a community this is were they all come together. As I will be looking at street art for my dissertation, I feel this image is a good starting point. I like the way you look at the art and not the people who do it. People judge areas like these as places were 'yobs' go. I see it as talent, expression and art.

Southbank!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SICGpr7YRWI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/Wg3Jx7g0k0I/s320/Picture+7.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224323618474313058" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SICGQhYf-6I/AAAAAAAAAGI/mPTWmnzIaqw/s320/southbank.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224323186146933666" />

Whilst I was in London for the 10k, I went to the Southbank festival. Here artists created various art for the public to view. This image in the sand, called Rio Janira 2008, was specially done for this exhibition. The artist had the sand shipped in, and then moulded it there. It reminded me of the image above which is of an Art festival in Germany. I like the idea of this work as your using your hands to create a piece of art work. Most art work you have to use tools such as a computer, pen or pencil, but this was a vision and his hands that did this. This image was printed in the leaflet and I really like the graphics and how it was done. The routed map that I like, uses simple imagery and colours and as I did a project a few months ago on a journey around London I feel this relates to this. I think it would of been good to have this image along with that project as I only focused on the actual landmarks rather than what was going on around the whole of the city. On the whole of that project I now feel I failed to capture the essence of the city, I feel I illustrated the landmarks well but it didn't encapsulate what I felt hen I did the London 10k.

London 10k

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SICDRy7YzBI/AAAAAAAAAF4/ZnwXFI2nM6g/s320/london10k.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224319909501651986" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SICDE2sNK8I/AAAAAAAAAFw/QCfxfGUA4UQ/s320/Picture+4.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224319687173417922" />

I took part in the London 10k this year, after completing my first marathon, running has become a big part of my life and my daily routine, and soon will be a big part in my work as its something Im good at and am passionate about. I like the atmosphere in events such as these, the feeling of community and people coming together, pushing aside everything they do in their day to day lives for these few hours. I like the feeling of being British, the colours, symbols and great landmarks that you pass whilst doing the run. I find a lot of these that inspire me while I run and I want to carry this influence through into my projects next year, as I have only used it very little in previous projects.

MR BINGO

I like this image by Mr Bingo because it carries a political message and relates to news in the current press today. I had to do design and produce a title sequence for an E4 music season. It was a 20second title sequence and was designed for screen. I liked the images I produced on Illustrator, as I thought they answered the brief. E4s adverts and title sequences usually use quirky animations and I wanted to create the same feel in my work which is what I think I have done. For every number I did something relevant to the number. Seven visible planets and luminaries (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn).

 Books ...The Seven Pillars of Wisdom by T E Lawrence, Enid Blyton's Secret Seven series ... Stephen Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People ... Reiki and the Seven Chakras ...

 Seven Deadly Sins.

 The Trumpton fire brigade. (Pugh, Pugh, Barney, Magrew, Cuthburt, Dibble and Grub)

 Seven Seas

 In Chinese culture, the seventh day of the first moon of the lunar year is known as Human's Day to be celebrated as the universal birthday of all human beings.

God, the Bible says, created the Universe in 7 days. Thus 6 is the imperfect number, this is why 666 is the number of Satan or the Beast.

On dices, where seven is a winning number, to get a 7 you need one dice on 6 and a 1 on the opposite side on the other dice. All opposite side numbers adds to 7.

Personal Imagery

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0nC8vYO_I/AAAAAAAAADs/-k8tD5vAaas/s320/Picture+3.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218870474810342386" />

I have a habit of sticking down photos and imagery that I like in my sketchbooks as I like to record what I do, who I meet and things that I find interesting. I chose straight from the horses mouth and produced a 'tongue in cheek' image. The background is made up racing times of horses. The horse is what I illustrated and then I experimented with different texts and found one that suited the image. I feel this image was successful because it was very strong, and I thought was quite clever. I feel the text chosen suited the words coming out of the horses mouth because of its 'western/cowboy' theme.

Experimenting with Light and Photography

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0bNp-pd3I/AAAAAAAAADM/wP5nOZ3Pk74/s320/DSC00127.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218857464613140338" />

I thought this image was really good when I took a took it a few days ago. I feel that fonts can relate to different subjects, objects and meanings. This work on fonts came from my Visual Thinking- Meaning and Interpretation Module. I felt these images above were really interesting and eye catching. Although I didn't include my final piece for this project above as I felt it wasn't successful I feel that the experimenting I did with this project was good.

Banksy!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0RzALkroI/AAAAAAAAACs/VmztIb9GW8w/s320/banksy+copies.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218847111111814786" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0RqVmJwJI/AAAAAAAAACk/tPXuA1U9bQc/s320/banksy5.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218846962241618066" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0RfUUoCmI/AAAAAAAAACc/NAePTWJfzXo/s320/banksy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218846772921109090" />

I have always been a fan of Banksy! I own his book "Existencilism" and the imagery in it is amazing! I love his method of working and I feel some of the best work I've done is when I've done it in his style. I recently did a copy of his work and produced the image "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery" as I feel this appeals to me when I use Banksy as my inspiration. The work above is like his series entitled the "rat pack" . He feels that vermon will tear the city (world) apart. Rats are called rats because they'll do anything to survive. He feels this applies to the modern day world. In one of my projects, I had to gather research on things that angered me, and I took inspiration from what angers him.

Day Out

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0Qo21Uf7I/AAAAAAAAACU/90SQTbOb_7w/s320/DSC00252.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218845837292240818" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0QaslEV3I/AAAAAAAAACM/X0ntp-x90IA/s320/DSC00082.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218845594021549938" />

I went to Ilkley one day to go for a walk and loved the pictures I took of the sun going down. I had to research this occupation fully gathering a range of visual information. I produced a series of graffiti based images using a stencilling method. I feel these were a successful outcome to this project, as I used Banksy and other graffiti artists as my inspiration. I felt that using spray paint and stencilling linked to this project to do with the police because of Street art and crime in London. If I was to do the project again, I would do more research and develop my ideas more.

Artists Who Inspire

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0J1kZHq0I/AAAAAAAAABU/PeeKltkABL8/s320/inspiration+artists.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218838359099026242" />

These are a list of artists who have inspired my work and who will continue to inspire. Mr Bingo uses really simple techniques such as using a fine liner pen and a scanner to produce his work.
Vanessa De Silva produces Graphic prints and T Shirts. I like her work because of how she overlayers imagery.
Nineteenseventythree.com are at the forefront of cutting edge fashion and design.They are consistently evolving and bringing exciting new products. The produce cards, wrapping paper, and have really unique designs. I love the graphics!
Karine Faou works with illustration and mixed media. I think she uses really nice imagery and city scapes and outlines.
Reluctant Hero is a design agency, their work is mainly illustrator based although they also do graphics and print. I really admire their work that was recently published in Dazed and Confused magazine, provides good inspiration for my work in the future.
E-BOY is mad eup of three men from Berlin and one from New York. Their work is pixel art and is base don video games. They make their work really playful and colourful. Their art runs the gamut from simple faces, animals, and rampaging beasts, to giant cityscapes filled with isometric buildings, vehicles both worldly and fantastic, designer trees, and the occasional nipple.

Running

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0DojnEcOI/AAAAAAAAABE/8owZpEHSCv4/s320/Picture+2.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218831538481033442" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0DfEXyHlI/AAAAAAAAAA8/aiwQgQaPpzQ/s320/certificate+for+running.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218831375476596306" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0DXOn96yI/AAAAAAAAAA0/DhcyWX-xW5c/s320/illustration.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218831240789879586" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CTMjQKMeZ98/SG0DQYwgV6I/AAAAAAAAAAs/yWFGmatgVRc/s320/Picture+5.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218831123250960290" />

My passion for running has always had an influence on my work as shown above. Since getting my Nike plus sensor to help record how far I run and how well I do, I feel it has helped me with my work. The illustration above is from one of my projects an unofficial student guide. My keen interest in running made me think of this idea when applying it to the phrase "Lift from the knees". I recently completed my first marathon in Halstead. Due to the hot weather I collapsed and I fell seriously ill. I intend to use this experience in the future with my work.

How far I've ran:
500 miles, since September! From the start of the year I was unable to develop my ideas and produce a significant outcome, however recently, I have been able to resolve final design ideas for each project. I feel my design practice over the last year has become stronger as I am able to produce a series of ideas and then be able to choose which one will be my final outcome.
My practical skills have developed further this year as II have been able to use Flash, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop. I am not confident with programs with these and my knowledge in how to use them isn't great however I feel I have grasped the basic concept and this has helped me to have other possibilities for final pieces.
I feel my main strength is my ability to illustrate. I feel I will follow through this way of working next year and hopefully, be more successful at it. I want to be more experimental with my illustrations, using a range of mixed medias, rather than the basic tools. I also think my design development is good although I need to be able to select a certain few to run with.
The most important area for me to improve is my computer skills and my time management. I need to be able to organise my time for each project not only so as I produce a greater quantity of work but also so I produce my final ideas to a high professional standard.
I think I want to focus my designs on current affairs, as I find my work is driven by the here and now, stuff going on in the news and stuff thats going on here and around me as I am very observant and am a visual learner. Before I move onto what I am going to do next I think I need to re-evaluate the process of how I work, I know I want to follow an illustration route through my future projects but in order to be better at this I need to from the start of each brief be able to allocate sufficient time and practice to each project.

Leeds Market

Walked round the market saturday, lots of colours and vibrance.
